Standards Act, 2006—Notification of Food Inspectors
under Municipal Common Service as Food Safety
Officers—Orders Issued.

Order No. D-2143/2011/CFS. 22nd February 2012.
Government vide order read above have transferred
the administrative control of the 30 numbers of Food
Inspectors under Municipal Common Service to the
Commissioner of Food Safety, Kerala.
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub section 1
of section 37 of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006
(Central Act 34 of 2006), the following 23 Food Inspectors
under Municipal Common Service who have
completed training on FSS Act, 2006 are appointed as
Food Safety Officers for all the Local Areas of the State

Explanatory Note
I. The areas of Jurisdiction of the notified Food
Safety Officers are restricted to the concerned
Municipality/Corporation where they are presently
working or to any other local area as shall be
specified in their transfer order.
II. According to sub-section 1 of section 37 of FSS
Act 2006 the Commissioner of Food Safety shall
by notification in the official gazette appoint such
persons as he thinks fit having the qualification
prescribed for such local areas as it may assigned
to them. So each Food Safety Officer need to be
notified on fresh appointment /transfer. This creates
a vacuum in the implementation of the Act every
time a Food Safety Officer is appointed as fresh or
transferred from one area of jurisdiction to another.
Hence the Food Safety Officers are notified for the
entire State. But their jurisdiction restricted to
Circle/Municipalities/Corporation as specified in
notification issued by Commissioner of Food
Safety, Kerala under Section 3(l)(zb) of Food Safety
and Standards Act.
III. This notification is intended to achieve the above
object.
